Questions You Should Ask YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

1. Exactly What You Need KNOW

Wedding Photography isn't an easy subject and interviewing potential wedding photographers is usually a daunting task. Whether or not you will be hiring Darkershadesofbrown Photography or another studio, we've developed a list of questions that may help you choose the perfect photographer on your special day.
Although this list can be used as a reference of exactly what questions you should ask, be sure that you are also being attentive to many of the other items to take into consideration that are mentioned in our section Trusting Your Wedding Photographer in Scranton PA.

 2. What Exactly Is YOUR STYLE?

This needs to be your very first and foremost question because this is the style of photography in which you're interested. Someone wise once said a wedding photographer has to be a photojournalist, detail photographer, and high end fashion photographer all rolled into one. We agree! We spend most of the day photographing things simply because they happen. Don't worry! We will happily interject if an individual forgets to zip their fly. We arrange your family members during the formals time of the day and make certain everyone looks their very best. Furthermore, we plan to take photos of the elements of the wedding you spent a great deal of time planning, from flowers to jewelry. Darkershadesofbrown Photography primarily has a photojournalist technique to your wedding with hints of fashion and fine-art wedding photography. For more details on our style, philosophy and personality, take a look at our about page where you could get a glimpse into our lives as photographers.

If you're searching for photojournalism, be sure you check our our section {HERE} where you could see a little bit about the things we capture during a wedding. To ensure you're actually ending up with a photographer which specializes in photojournalism it’s recommended that you find out what they mean whenever they say “We are photojournalists”.

3. Just How Many WEDDINGS HAVE YOU PHOTOGRAPHED?

A great question to find an idea of just how much experience your wedding photographer has overall. Years ordinarily are not a very good gauge of practical experience since some wedding photographers may work as a hobby, and only shoot 3 weddings a year on a few weekends. Thus, maybe they have got 10 years of experience, yet they have only shot 20 weddings. We have been wedding photographers for 8 years in Scranton PA and photograph 22-25 weddings a year. Lately, we have become desitnation wedding photographers traveling all over the country shooting weddings. We have also photographed weddings in 4 different countries.

4. How Frequently Have You WORKED SPECIFICALLY AS A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER?

This inquiry is made to decide if your photographers are specifically wedding photographers, or maybe if they're “one stop shop photographers.” Specifically, you'd be more well off hunting for a photographer that specializes, not just in wedding photography, but also in the style of wedding photography you're in search of.

 5. What Other EVENTS Are You Planning To PHOTOGRAPH THAT WEEKEND?

Larger studios with multiple photographers will usually double and in many cases triple book dates simply because they have enough resources to utilize anybody with a camera to photograph your wedding. However, smaller studios might only photograph 1 or 2 weddings in a weekend. Visualize a studio with twelve wedding photographers shooting 2-3 weddings on the weekend per person. The attention to detail as well as to client service could suffer through these circumstances.

6. WILL THERE BE A Legal Contract? IF SO, Am I Allowed To Acquire A COPY?

There are a number of studios that don’t create contracts with their wedding photography clients. You need to demand a contract with your photographer that details what services they'll be providing, pricing, termination resolution terms, etc. A contract is made for your own protection, and for the wedding photographer’s protection. It is recommended to utilize a photographer which will create a contract together with you, and stay cautious of photographers that “don’t typically create contracts for clients.”

7. WHAT HAPPENS IF your wedding photographer is sick?

Even though it is unlikely that any of us would get sick upon your wedding day, there is always still a possibility. It is vital that the photography studio does something to address the problem in case there is illness. Darkershadesofbrown Photography has two equally skilled photographers so someone could take over in case someone is sick.

8. Do You Possess INSURANCE?

Professional wedding photographers ought to have the appropriate insurance regarding their business. Insurance protects the photographer against equipment theft, but most of all it gives you liability protection in the event Aunt Linda trips on top of the photographer’s bag and breaks her leg. When a wedding photographer doesn't have insurance, they likely are a newcomer to this industry, or perhaps aren’t taking their business seriously.

Darkershadesofbrown Photography has business, equipment and liability insurance.

9. Will The PACKAGE We Are Excited About Offer An ASSISTANT?

Should your wedding have 100 or more guests, make sure you step up into a package which includes an assistant photographer. Additionally, along with your wedding venue, there are several moments through which a single photographer cannot cover completely alone. It is impossible to capture the first kiss, as well as at the same time, turnaround and get your grandfather as he wipes tears from his eyes.

10. DOES YOUR STUDIO Let Me Decide On A CERTAIN Kind Of EDITING?

Another part of the way in which your pictures will look is the type of post production in which the studio employs. To put it differently, do they do any post-production for your images? Be extremely careful, as many studios don’t do post production on any of your images; rather they give them to you unfinished and straight from the camera. In this situation, you are not receiving a finished and professional product.

11. Do You Need To COLOR CORRECT MY IMAGES?

Color correction is among the most basic post production that ought to be done on each individual image. Many photographers are not going to color correct any, or only will color correct “a few” images from the wedding. In other words, you may have a great deal of pictures where your skin tones are red, yellow, blue or even green.

Darkershadesofbrown Photography color corrects every single image within your wedding to be able to ensure each individual image is a professional top quality product.

12. Just How Many IMAGES Are We Able To GET?

We really do not limit the number of images we take on a wedding day. Rather, we photograph as we see things happening and make certain every aspect of your wedding day is captured naturally. Following your wedding, we are going to edit the large amount of good photos and get rid of any experiments gone wrong or pictures where people have their eyes closed. We usually take 85 images/hour during a wedding.

13. What Type Of EQUIPMENT Will You USE? Do You Possess BACKUPS?

Our studio uses high-quality camera bodies (1D Mark III) in addition to the highest quality L lenses from canon. While wedding photographers don’t necessarily require the best of the best, it is recommended to possess a good set of equipment. Nothing could be worse than for the photographer to miss 1 / 2 of your wedding because his or her camera or lens broke, when he didn’t have a spare. We regularly carry along nearly $30,000 in camera equipment to your wedding. I understand this sounds excessive, but we really like equipment and it’s hard to limit what we bring to a wedding.

14. SHOULD MY EVENT LAST LONGER THAN SCHEDULED, Can You STAY? Do You Have An Additional CHARGE?

Knowing in advance the photographers policy on overages is crucial. You don’t need to be surprised if your wedding photographer asks for an extra $1,000 before they release your pictures for you. Worse yet, you don’t want your wedding photographer to just shut down and then leave when their time comes to an end. If you wish to purchase one of our collections we are there for 12 hours so time is usually not an issue.

15. WHAT ATTIRE WILL THE PHOTOGRAPHER Along With ASSISTANTS WEAR?

While a wedding photographer really is a big aspect of the wedding day, it’s critical that they should not be distractions. Therefore, it’s very important for the photographer to blend in as much as possible. Furthermore, for religious or cultural ceremonies, there could possibly be certain colors which can be considered taboo. Be sure that your photographers are going to be dressed appropriately for your occasion. Typically, Darkershadesofbrown photography would rather wear dark colors so that we can match the individuals at your wedding.

16. The Length of time it takes TO GET YOUR IMAGES?

Each wedding photography studio varies in the time it takes to create and deliver your photographs. Studios that don't do any post production or color correction may attempt to entice you by saying your photos are going to be ready the next morning, or perhaps the next week. However, most studios that develop and create their images will need anywhere from 4 weeks to 3 months.

Darkershadesofbrown Photography has created a regular production schedule in an effort to deliver a fantastic product in an exceptionally quick manner. This schedule can be found below:

  • 1-3 Weeks after event - Blog preview posted if our blogging schedule permits
  • 8-12 Weeks after event - Proofs can be found online
  • 12-14 Weeks after event - Album is created (this relies with regards to how much revision is necessary from your original album)

17. DO YOU provide WEDDING ALBUMS?

Here's what it all boils down to. Your wedding album stands out as the final presentation of the art and story we shall document upon your wedding day. When the entire cake is eaten, the flowers are wilted away, the gown is boxed up, the decor is removed as well as the memories fade your album stands out as the lasting token from the wedding passed on from one generation to another. Your wedding album is going to be purposely designed from beginning to end by Darkershadesofbrown photography. We take great pride in presenting a unique album design for each couple, therefore we won't ever force you into a standard design determined by only 8 by 10's or 5 by 7's. Each of our albums are made with a very clean, modern style with the concentration on showcasing your images. We love just how your wedding album is a collaborative work of art, with input from all parties of the table working together to create a thing that will be a perfect reflection of your wedding. All page layouts are created in photoshop, made into composites and then printed to be a single image. The composite images are printed on archival photographic paper and permanently bound into your album. This procedure provides for very dramatic full-page bleeds and double page panoramic spreads, in addition to a thinner even more streamlined album size due to the absence of bulk from mats. {In short. to put it bluntly, Sexy Time!!!}

Wedding Stories

For some time now we have been working on offering our clients something called wedding stories. I actually wish something like this were offered to me at my wedding. I have a three-hour clip of my wedding somewhere of long periods of people dancing and standing around in a church that I have no use for today. It really says little about who my wife and I are as a couple. It’s not that there is anything wrong with traditional wedding videography, but that is not what we are offering. We offer your story told by you of the day of your wedding. we include details of how you met and footage of you being photographed during your post wedding or “Trash The Dress” session as we call it here in the studio. It is a 10- 15 minute video that you will watch over and over again at your leisure. Photographs from your wedding are put into the video as you tell the story of your day and done with artistic vision similar to our photography. It’s really something very unique to the wedding industry and you are more then welcome to see one during your consultation. It may just be the perfect compliment to your wedding package. We have put a video up on our website just in case you are interested in seeing a wedding story told by one of our recent clients.
