Epicurean Delight Scranton PA Wedding Caterer Interview:

DSB: Thanks for joining us today Cliff! Tell us a little bit of yourself and Epicurean Delight! My name is Cliff Daniels. My brother Dave and I started The Epicurean Delight in 1981. We started catering by doing small dinner parties for friends of our parents and quickly, over the next few years through word of mouth, became the largest off premise caterer in NEPA. Myself, my wife Carla, and Dave lead a dedicated team of 6 full time and up to 40 on call staff.
DSB: That’s a beautiful beginning! Looking back, where do you draw your inspiration from? My parents were always imaginative, adventurous, great cooks. Hours each day were spent on meal preparation. They were also avid gardeners. We were definitely the first kids in the neighborhood to have a real French cassolet or black bean soup for dinner. Dinner was a really big deal, served every night at the same time, and usually with a guest or two. This is where our love for great food came from and made us relentlessly interested in food.
DSB: How do you translate that rich history and sense of joy into your work at Epicurean Delight? We continue to grow and learn and improve, that’s what makes us good cooks and great caterers. I look back over the years and can honestly say we improve each year. Interest and improvement like this is only possible if you love what you are doing like we do. Our presentations are dynamic, unusual and vibrant. Our food is creative and flavorful and our service is energetic and friendly.
DSB: What do you feel sets you apart from traditional catering options when it comes to planning wedding meals? We do things the longer way, the right way, no short cuts. We travel with full kitchens, cooking mass amounts of foods to order at serving time. This is one of the important things that really sets us apart.
DSB: What tokens of beginner advice can you give couples who are trying to make plans for the wedding? My first piece of advice to a couple planning a wedding and selecting a caterer is taste the food. We run prospective clients through a tasting of about 17 different items in our lovely tasting room. This gives the client a chance to get to know us and see our work and taste our food.
DSB: What other things are relevant when choosing your wedding caterer? Secondly, once you have selected a caterer, rely on their expertise. They have been doing this for many years and have lots of great ideas and advice for you!
DSB: In closing, what’s the most important thing you can share with couples? Third, choose the best in class for your piece of mind, so you can truly relax and enjoy your special day.

Thanks so much to Cliff, Carla and the entire staff and team at Epicurean Delight for sharing your story and expertise with us today! You can follow Epicurean Delights stories and view their delicious food photography here on Facebook and on their personal website.

Possibly THE Worst Bridesmaids Gifts Ever!

A hair net. Bottle opener. Hotel soap wrapped in a plastic baggy. Am I listing the contents of some random person’s overnight bag? Nope, I’m talking about bridesmaids gifts! YES! Believe it or not, some bride’s have given things most people would throw out as GIFTS. Needless to say, my reaction to hearing these stories is something like this.

Truth be told, there are SO many ways to thanks the members of your bridal or groom party, that in this blog, we’re going to tap as many as possible to ensure your gift isn’t the one opening the next headline of “I can’t believe they gave me this!” gift stories. Although there’s the usual suspects like jewelry, shoes, bow ties and of course, booze, we’re talking about new and unique ways to say thanks, so let’s get to it!

Planting Flowers Or A Tree in the Person’s Name: A blue spruce may not be the first place your mind goes to when thinking “what should I get my bridesmaid/wedding party member?” but you’d be surprised at how effective a green, lifelong growing gesture is at saying “thank you!”. As the years go by, the people who made your special day can smile from seed, to sitting in shade  under its leaves!

Donate In Their Name: Per Heifer International, women produce eighty percent of the developing world’s food while owning only two percent of the land, so if your ladies already have everything and you’re looking for a way to give back to them for helping at the same time as  helping another, consider donating to this cause, or the long list of others that support these great causes.

Luxurious Or Handmade Bath Gifts: If the green or donation route isn’t quite your cup of tea, maybe supporting small businesses with your wedding gifting is!  It’s a sweet way to not only smell absolutely amazing, but also let’s you customize the colors and bouquet themes you’d be giving.

A few minutes of searching online leads to so many creative and fun ways to say thank you to bridesmaids or members of your wedding party. From DIY to high end, and back to geeky and even haute couture, there’s a million and one ways to show the ladies or gents in your party you care!

So tell us, were you guilty of giving hotel soaps? Or were you the bride/groom doling out the über luxe Tiffany’s? Leave a comment below and let’s hear your thoughts on giving wedding party gifts and what worked for you!

Weddings are all about the little things!

From the table settings, to the vows, all the way down to the invitations, weddings are made of so many lovely tokens that create your special day. In fact, it’s easy to get lost in them, especially if you’re the groom caught up in the whirl wind of a partner’s party! But fear not, this blog finally gives the guys a chance to have some fun with their own little detail, the fabulously dashing boutonniere!

Boutonnière, which is a French word coined in the early 1700’s, literally means “buttonhole” and calls back to an era when small flowers denoting the mood of a gentlemen was nestled in the buttonhole of a man’s suit or tux.  Boutonniere were also a superstitious device meant to ward off ghosts, disease and evil spirits. In these modern times and over the years, a boutonnieres have evolved to be used more for events such as weddings and proms. It is meant to match the partner’s corsage, dress or tie together the pantone, or color of a couple’s “theme”. These days bouts are as individualized as weddings themselves, ranging from DIY to high end exotic succulents, these floral highlights can be a great way to personalize the lapel and share personality.
